Female tilapias can reproduce multiple times per year. Thus, you can find various sizes of tilapia fish in the pond. Because males grow faster than females, you will not receive the desired product. However, the size of the male tilapia is greater than the female.
It is therefore advisable to grow only male fish for producing greater volumes. This form of aquaculture is known as mono-sex aquaculture. Essentially, these fish eat supplementary feeds and can withstand adverse conditions.
Therefore, it is best to grow only male tilapias if you want to generate more fish. This kind of fish culture is known as mono-sex aquaculture. Essentially, they eat supplemental feed and can withstand harsh environmental conditions.
You should consider whether you want to hatch your own fish or buy them from another hatchery. Tilapia hatching is a complex procedure so if you’re a newbie, it would be best to get them from a reputable hatchery.
b) Pond Selection for Tilapia Fish Farming
You need to ensure that there is enough chlorine-free clean water available for the fish.
Additionally, ensure that the water pH level is between 6 and 8. Also, make sure that the pool is clean and has enough light during the day. Tilapias can live in temperatures ranging from 12 to 40°C (54 to 104°F) and grow best in temperatures between 16 and 35°C (60 and 95°F).
c) Tilapia Fish Pond Management
To begin with, take the minnows out of their nursery tank and put them into a larger tank where they can swim freely. Then place a small mesh cage around the tank so that the minnows cannot escape. Finally, cover the entire tank with a fine mesh screen to prevent any predators from entering.
After five to seven days of fertilizing, stock 28-42-day-old minnows in the water. Feed 10-20 percent to the minnows according to their size. After 40-60 days of feeding and nurturing, move them to another tank.
Tilapia farms require clean water, oxygen, enough food, adequate lighting, and space for fish to swim. The art is to understand each of the factors involved and then figure out ways to meet their requirements.

The most commonly farmed fish species is the Nile Tilapias/Nile Perches, which account for roughly 75 percent of farmed Tilapias. Farmers typically raise only male fish in the growing-out phase. Males are larger than females and are more efficient at converting feed into protein.
The breeder’s method is not so hard and the setup of the breeder is very simple. Also, there are several ways you can try for raising the number according to your desired amount. For best hatchery practices it is advisable to keep one female to three males. After homing, collect the fry and transfer them to grow-out ponds.
