The number of self-employed people continues to reach new record highs. Recent figures showed the 4.3 million people are now taking a chance on themselves and stepping into the unknown with their own businesses.
However, one of the biggest drawbacks of being self-employed is staying motivated as you often spend long hours by yourself, and efficiency is often the key to having a good day and week.
However, how can those that are self-employed ensure that they stay motivated throughout the working week?
Change Work Set Up
One of the most popular ways that the self-employed stay motivated is by changing where they are working. Just getting out of the home office for a couple of hours a day can have a profound impact on efficiency.
Many people that freelance look to work from a new place towards the end of the week, as a slight reward for the work that they have done throughout the week.
One of the options that many take up is the opportunity to work from cafes that encourage the self-employed to work from there.
Those that work at these cafes can enjoy complimentary wifi, while also staying hydrated throughout the day with coffee and tea.
Reward Yourself
It’s always important to reward yourself when you think that you’re doing a good job, or have finally got a piece of work signed off which you had trouble with.
Rewarding yourself can be anything from having a day off on a Friday to granting yourself an early finish when you think that your workload can cope.
Giving yourself a reward when you have achieved something is an excellent way to stay motivated with your work, as it ensures that you get a good feeling once you have accomplished something that you have put hours of effort into.
Take Breaks
Sometimes we just want to get through work as quickly as possible. However, that isn’t always the wisest decision, as your productivity will certainly increase should you allow yourself to have regular breaks throughout the day.
Taking a five-minute break to stretch your legs, or a ten-minute break to have a cup of tea and restore will have an immediate positive impact on your work when you return to your desk to begin working again.
Recharging your battery throughout the day is important, as this ensures that you stay alert when it’s time to start working again.
Set Yourself a Schedule
Staying on top of your work is the hardest challenge that the self-employed face. That means the best way to stay motivated is by keeping a diary on your desk and setting the tasks that you need to complete throughout the week.
Writing each task down will ensure that you can stay up to date with what you need to do, and also check off what you have completed.
Keeping a schedule will also help you assign tasks for different days to ensure that you aren’t taking on too much on any day. After you have completed tasks, you can tick them off, before moving on to the next one.
