According to the Central Motor Vehicles Act, if a car has been used for more than one year, the full amount of road tax must be paid at once. When you purchase car insurance online, there are some vital road tax elements you should keep in mind; you’ll need to pay the road tax after buying suitable insurance.
- To pay road tax you need your vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC), a valid insurance policy document, your personal ID and proof of address, and the purchase invoice of your car.
- The amount of road tax varies from one state to another and relies on the car’s ex-showroom price. This number is also influenced by certain relevant factors. As a matter of fact, the cost of your insurance policy will be determined by these variables as well; for example, engine power, seating capacity, age, and weight.
- When registering your vehicle, you’ll be responsible for paying road tax. Depending on where you live, this fee is either an annual payment or a one-time payment.
- If you purchased your automobile in one state and paid for a lifetime road tax, but you’re relocating to a different state, you’ll need to get a NOC from your RTO and re-register your car in the new state. Additionally, you’ll be required to pay the road tax once more.
The car dealer is responsible for the initial road tax amount. For the remaining tax payment, you can choose either offline or online mediums – through the Vahan portal if online. This procedure should be followed:
- Visit https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/
- Navigate to Vehicle-Related Services in the Online Services section.
- Choose your state and regional traffic office.
- Choose the desired service, provide the necessary information, and make the payment.
Whereas for offline payment, you’ll have to go to the RTO, submit the road tax renewal form, and then pay the tax amount. The only downside to offline payment is that it’s very time and energy-consuming.
Now that you’re aware of the key points to consider when paying road tax and buying insurance, you should make sure you choose the policy that best fits your needs.
