What is a Green Card Interview Like?
When getting a green card via marriage, there are oftentimes questions that arise about the process itself, especially when it comes to the interview.
This is scheduled by USCIS, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and involves several questions designed to understand the legitimacy of your marriage.
Your interview may take place in the United States or it may take place overseas. Either way, you will be met with a number of questions to determine whether your relationship is based on love, or fraud. The immigration process is lengthy but it usually ends after this.
Green Care Interview Questions to Expect
Typically you’ll be asked a series of questions about your relationship history, the details surrounding your wedding, and some of the routines you engage in together.
Relationship Questions
The interviewer will ask about relationship basics, including “where did you meet and how?” as well as “how did your proposal go?”
They may even ask you in detail to explain the specifics of the proposal day.
Specifics About The Wedding
This is an important one. You’ll have to tell interviewers all the most important details about your wedding, including details ranging from food served, music played, and other rituals that took place.
They may also ask who attended your wedding. Not only how many people attended but who specifically attended.
In addition to the actual wedding day, the interviewer may ask about your honeymoon. Where did you go? How long did you stay? What kinds of activities did you do while you were away?
What is Your Daily Life Like Now?
Your interviewer may also ask you some questions about your current married life. Things like “how do you two start each day?” And “how often do you communicate throughout the day?”
They also might ask more specific questions like “who cooks?” Or even “who takes out the trash?”
As you can tell, you should be prepared for everything when it comes to a green card interview.
Details About Your Family
If you two have any kids, the interviewer may ask some questions regarding their schooling. Even things like “who drives them to school” could come up.
You should also be prepared to answer questions about their favorite foods, names of friends, afterschool activities and sports where they participate.
More Personal Details
This is where things get a little more personal. The interviewer will likely ask you questions regarding specific habits and routines between the two of you.
Questions like this will include “what clothes do you wear to bed,” “what time do you wake up each morning,” or “what medications does your spouse take?”
This is an attempt to establish your personal habits and make sure that you and your spouse spend time together day after day.
Other Celebrations
The interviewer will ask you the obligatory “when are your birthdays,” “when are your kids’ birthdays,” and “what kinds of activities do you do to celebrate?”
They will also ask questions about holidays you celebrate. “What are your favorite holidays together?” etc.
