How to Start Guar Gum Manufacturing Business?

Share

Are you looking for a guar gum-making business? Find out everything you need to know about guar gum making here.

A galactomannan is a polysaccharide made of mannose units joined together through glycosidic bonds. Galactomannans are found in plants.

They can also be extracted from plant seedpods such as guava pods, konjac root tubers, and aloe vera leaves. In addition, they are used commercially to thicken foods and beverages. When added to hot water, guars swell, forming gels.

Previously, it was used in non-prescription weight loss supplements designed to give people a feeling of fullness.

Guar Gum Manufacturing

Guar Gum Manufacturing Project Plan Guide

To begin a guar gum manufacturing business, here are some things to consider:

1. Production and Trade of Guar Gum Manufacturing

Guaraná (guara) is mainly produced in Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Netherlands Antilles, St Lucia, Dominica, Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala

These three states produce most of the guar seeds used by the world market. Jodhpur (Rajasthan) is the main guar seed exporting state. It exports guar seeds mainly to Europe and North America.

Guar production has increased by an average of 1,400 tons per year since 2000. Over the past five decades, up to 50,000 acres of land in West Texas have been devoted to growing guar for use in animal feed.

2. Guar Gum Manufacturing Process

Guaran gum is made by extracting galactomannans from the seeds of the guara plant. It has been used for thousands of years in India and Africa.

The gums are made from the seeds’ endospermic tissue, which is removed during the shelling process.

The product is traded as split or powder; its value is judged by how viscous it is (measured in centipoises), which is known as cp. Typically, high-viscosity guar has a higher value.

Guaraná is produced through an automated process in which the seeds are first cracked open and then the inner part (endosperm) is separated from the outer layer (hue). After this step, the grain is polished and dried.

These seeds are ground up and made into powders that are used in various industries. The endosperms are further refined and ground into fine powders.

Sifting is done after grinding to get the required size.

The ground-up guaraná seed is then passed through bladers to make it homogeneous. Today’s state-of-the-art plants are capable of producing various grades of guaraná seeds ranging from very low to high viscosities and from coarse to fine graining.

3. Industrial Applications of Guar Gum

  • Textiles Industry – Sizing, Finishes, and Printing
  • Improved papermaking processes, folding and denser surfaces for printing
  • As an explosive industry – as a waterproofing agent, combined with ammonium nitrate and/or nitrogen
  • Pharmaceuticals – as binders or as disintegrators in tablets; the main ingredients in some bulk-forming drugs
  • Cosmetic and toiletry industries – thickeners in toothpaste, conditioners in shampoos (often in a chemically modified form).
  • The hydraulic fracking shale oil and gas industry consumes most of the guar gum produced by India and Pakistan.
  • Mining
  • Seed-bearing “guars” (also called hydroseed
  • Nursing home residents who suffer from dysphagia often need thickened liquids and/or food.
  • As a thickener for Phos-Chek fire retardant products
  • Nanotechnology – To create nanoscale particles (nanoparticles) from materials such as metals, semiconductors, ceramics, polymers, etc., using physical, chemical, biological, or mechanical methods.

4. Machinery Required for Guar Dehusking Plant

To manufacture guar gum, some of the basic equipment used include cleaning, splitting, elevator, pneumatic conveyor, centrifugal, roaster, de-husking, cooler, bagging, rotary sieve, water tank, machine, pneumatic dryers, conical blender.

5. Cost of Guar Gum Manufacturing Plant

The expenditure will vary depending on the production volume and size of the factory. The machinery costs will be between Rs.1.25 crore and Rs.2 crore.

On a rough estimation, the total cost to set up a guarana manufacturing plant would be roughly Rs. 5 crores in Indian rupees.

A lot of opportunities exist for new entrepreneurial ventures to enter the market and create successful products.
