Getaround has been growing rapidly as an alternative to traditional car ownership. It s a cool concept and service, especially as a replacement for owning a car. I myself have used Getaround a ton, but it did grab my eye of how many competitors exist who offer similar products. But who are their rivals and what are they providing? Well, I would be glad to share the information with you.
Getaround is a car-sharing platform where users can rent out their own vehicles. Users who sign up get access to a pool of cars they can rent out to others. In addition to renting out your car, you can also earn cash through referrals. Getaround works best if you live near a major city and have an extra car sitting around.
GetAround is a car-share company that competes with many others to provide the best prices, insurance, and other features. Here is the list that GetAround competes with.

At present, the car rental business is rapidly changing as more companies try to get a hold of the market. However, with the pandemics still ongoing, people continue to flock to GetAround and its competitors.
So let’s take another look at each Getaround rival and see what they have going for them.
Getaround Competitors
Not so long ago (about five years), finding a car to share with someone else would have been considered absurd. It was before smartphones made it easy to find a nearby car within driving distance of your house and then book a ride to the nearest big box store.
Most vehicles cost $9212 per year in loan repayments, insurance, gas, and repairs. Despite this, they’re rarely used for most of the day!
Because of this, people who live in cities and college students have started using car-sharing services instead of owning cars. And because of this, some people now use P2P services like Getaround to give away their own keys to others.
On one hand, there are several legitimate alternatives to Getaround. However, Getaround has its own unique strengths that could be appealing to different types of people. Let’s start by taking a look at one of Getaround’s main competitors, Turo.
Turo
According to the Turo website, it is the world’s largest peer-to-peer car rental service. It works similarly to an Airbnb for cars—owners of vehicles may become Trolleo hostesses and offer them up for rental.
If you’re looking for a way to rent cars without having to pay upfront, then Turo might be worth checking out. It was founded in 2010, and it has a number of positive reviews online.
Both Turo and Getaround offer car rental services; however, they differ in terms of where they operate and how they serve their clients.
Turo’s BBB score is’ t as glowing: From 347 consumer reviews, the firm has an “F” score and 2.76/ 5 stars. Many complaints focus on the renters’ car damage, cancellations, and late return fees; however, Turo has good reviews and scores on both the Apple and Google Play stores.
On the one side, Turo has been actively working on resolving customer issues on the Better Business Bureau (BBB). On the other side, if you experience any issue using Turo, you can file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
Sixt
Next up is another company called GetAround, which delivers excellent customer service and offers affordable rates. It has been around since 2007 and was founded by two brothers who were born in Germany.
There are over 2,200 rental outlets in 105 countries worldwide. You can rent a car wherever you are.
Sixt focuses on providing excellent services for its customers and has convenient locations where they can be picked up from. It also employs people who speak English and other languages.
Sixt has car hire locations throughout Europe including Geneva Airport, Nice Airport (France), Alicante Airport (Spain), Malaga Airport (Spain), and several others. It also offers car rentals in the United States including New York City, Miami, Los Angeles (California), Las Vegas (Nevada), Dubai, and Barbados.
With Sixt‘s vast fleet of minivans and caravans, you can choose from various models that fit your needs.
On one hand, this car rental company offers cars from luxury brands like BMW, Daimler, and Range Rover. If you want to look like a celebrity when arriving at your destination, you’re in excellent hands!
Lyft Rentals
Lyft, Inc., provides ridesharing services throughout the U.S. and Canada by connecting riders with drivers through their smartphone app.
It’s an online marketplace for people who want to rent cars from private owners.
Lyft entered the automobile renting business in 2019. At the time, the company stated that it would offer a car rental service through its main smartphone application that would operate similarly to traditional car rental services. Additionally, the rental service initially started in the San Francisco Bay area and Los Angeles, California
The startup also offered its tenants two $20 travel credit vouchers at the time to help them pay for their ride-sharing trips to and from the apartment complex. The startup’s transportation network combines ridesharing (carpooling), biking, scooting, rental vehicles, and public transpotation into a single app.
ZipCar
Car-shares are services where people rent out their vehicles for short periods of time. They’re usually available at airports, train stations, bus stops, etc. You can use them to get from point A to B without having to own a car.
Unlike Getaround and Turo which both allow members to rent out their vehicles, ZipCar operates on a “rent by owner” basis where they own the vehicle and charge for its use. As a result, the prices charged by Zipcar are significantly higher than those offered by Getaround and Turo. However, because the cost of renting a Zipcar is included in the rental fee, the overall costs are similar.
Most Chicago, Washington D.C., and San Francisco neighborhoods offer hourly Zipcar rentals starting at $10. However, regular vehicles (such as Volkswagen Golfs, Toyotas Corollas, or Fords Focus) cost $13.25 an hour.
Renting a car for a longer period than necessary means you’ll be paying extra for gas. Still, renting a car through Getaround is cheaper than using private carshare services like Zipcar.
When driving from one city to another, the price of gas within Zipcar’s allowed range would not be enough to cover the difference in prices between Getaround and Tero. Zipcar’s come in at around $200 per trip compared to approximately $80 or $90 for Getaround and Tero respectively.
HyreCar
HyreCars is a peer-to‑peer company that matches drivers with passengers who need rides.
HyreCars is a good option for ridesharing drivers who don’t need to own a personal automobile or those who don’t have one but would like to earn extra income by driving for Uber or Lyft. There are no contracts involved, no signup fees, and no additional wait times.
Hire car was built for ride-sharing drivers, not renters. Therefore, its fixed fee structure is one of its best features.
Renting out a car through Uber means that the driver has to pay rent, which includes wear and damage fees. Therefore, it makes calculating the total cost easier than it would be if the driver were driving his/her own vehicle.
HyreCar is both a highly convenient and affordable way to get around town. It works by allowing you to rent any car at no cost for just one hour. If you decide not to drive it after an hour, simply drop off the car anywhere in the city and pick up another car at no charge.
Avail
Available is a P2P (Peers 2 Peers) ride-hailing app that connects drivers and riders looking for rides through an app. It’s available in several major U.S. cities including San Francisco, New York City, Boston, Chicago, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Philadelphia, Seattle, Denver, Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Portland, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, and Sacramento.
When traveling, you may be able to rent an automobile through the mobile application platform. You can also use your own car when someone else has rented one for you.
Because of this, car owners can avoid paying standard parking fees when visiting airports. In the long run, though, they could save a ton of money by using public transportation instead. But for travelers who go into cities, there’s an alternative option for “wheeled” travel whether on a vacation or a work-related visit.
You can avail of either a loan for a vehicle or parking space, or share one with another user. However, before doing so, you need to download the app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store respectively.
You then have to register by entering your name, email address, phone number, and so on. However, if you own a car, you simply have to input its details into the system.
Available excels at making booking easy for drivers by providing an intuitive user interface and allowing them to register using their phones.
DriveShare
Hagerty is a subsidiary of an insurance company called “Hagerty,” which ensures antique cars. Most of these car owners rarely use their cars, so they’re not likely to be involved in accidents.
DriveShare is the Airbnb version of everything classic and luxurious. It works just like GetAround but is specifically geared towards cars and specialty vehicles.
If you’ve ever wanted to rent a Porsche 911 for a full day, now’s your chance.
Prices vary depending on various factors including location, condition, etc.; however, in New Orleans a ’69 Chevy Corvette Stingray rents for around $200 per diem, and a ’62 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud rents for about $975 per diem.
You’re responsible for arranging transportation from the dealership to your house, but most car dealerships are willing to deliver cars to your house if you live close by.
ShareNow
ShareNow Gmbh is a German car-sharing service provider that combines car2go and Drive Now. It is a joint venture between Daimler and BMW.
It has received thousands of user reviews from people across the globe in 16 different countries.
ShareNow has had an extremely long history of criticism from its customers, but they’ve never stopped trying new things.
With 4.5 stars out of 5 on both iOS and Android, it’s clear that ShareNow is widely used by drivers across both the Apple and Google ecosystem.
GIG Car Share
A3 Ventures’ Gig Car Share is a car share company that operates in sections of California’s San Francisco Bay Area, Washington State’s Seattle, and Sacramento. It owns and maintains a fleet consisting of hybrid cars (Toyota Priuses) and electric cars (Chevrolet Bolt). Its rental service offers one-way rentals from the pick-up location to a drop-off location.
Even though this company no longer works and competes with its former competitor, Getaround, it was still added because it serves an important role in our analysis.
It started off by running it for beginners, but now it’s one of the few firms that offer hybrids and electrics.
You book a ride by calling up an app, and cars are available in what is called the “Home Zone,” a specific region within the Uber app. As long as the trip ends in a Home Zone, you’re free to go wherever in the U.S. you want to go and stop whenever you’d like.
Rent by the hour, day, week, month, or longer. Also, because there is no monthly fee, you’ll only be charged for the hours you actually spend using it.
Conclusion
Similar companies have sprung up all over in recent times.
There has been a significant rise in the number of people renting cars for their vacation trips because of the increase in airfares. However, there has not been enough supply to meet the increased demands. As a result, some travelers are facing abnormally high prices and an absence of vehicles.
As a result, Getaround’s competition offers similar rates and services, which means there is less room for them to grow.
After looking at Getaround’s main and minor rivals, we think this will help you identify Getaround‘s strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully, this will help you decide whether Getaround is right for you.
